As old as this movie is, the quality of animation is still pretty good and the story is decent adaptation of the manga. Although, the music can sound dated at times. Within this unique world particular to large insects, desolate landscapes and airships, there's a good amount of action and intrigue as the leading lady tries to protect her friends and nature itself. Doesn't quite have that new generation shine you see nowadays, but it's still a nice film to watch.

The action scenes are really cool and builds up anticipation, but the story really slows down in the middle of the series with a long and heavy flashback. Even though it's really compelling to watch, the 24 episodes aren't enough and it's left unfinished with the last couple of episodes being rushed. Overall, I felt unsatisfied, but the things you can look forward to are a lot of sexy ladies and fan-service as well as some bad-ass fighting and a little bit of levity at times. Disappointing series despite the sweet-looking things it has to offer.

A strange series of stories packed with unusual personalities and a mysterious power all intertwine during the Prohibition-era of America. It's a lot of fun to watch with all these quirky and comical people with questionable professions running around: thieves, assassins, news investigators, and Mafioso. The episodes jump around different story-lines and recall prior events quite a bit, so it keeps you on your toes as to where it's going. I thought it all worked out very well and comes to a very satisfying conclusion. One of the better (and different) shows to come out recently; don't miss it!

Hardcore anime fanatic? Serious online gamer? Paranoid conspiracy thinker beyond any kind of help? All these obsessive lifestyles show up in this anime in extremes beyond anything I've ever experienced. The main character here goes through a struggling lifestyle filled with neurotic and crazy thoughts, dysfunctional relationships, and funny moments. I think it's an interesting perspective on this unusual world that may be depressingly unbelievable but still connects to me through the reactions and emotions of the characters. There's even a little bit of romance which is nice. It's not your typical slice-of-life anime but I think it's an intriguing series to watch; give it a shot if you want to see something that's uncommon.

Wizards and witches come into a girl's life and changes her - quite drastically actually. Appearances can be deceiving because beneath the unfavorable looks lies a lot of charm and good-natured intentions. Unfortunately, despite how delightful the characters may be, I thought the story was kinda convoluted and a little hard to follow. You might be able to forgive that flaw by overlooking it and being taken in by some of the best quality animation I've seen, especially within this fantasy world of unique creatures and individuals. Certainly worth watching for that aspect alone.

One thing I really like about Stand Alone Complex is being able to see and learn more about the main cast - Section 9. There really wasn't much exposure of the characters in the original movie besides Batou and Kusanagi, so it's nice to see some character development from the others. It still has the same sci-fi mystery feel, but I'd say there's a less serious atmosphere with the series. Light hearted scenes are put in here and there with the group and their Tachikomas, which can be a nice change of pace in between the action and thick dialogue. With one of the most memorable soundtracks out there, it an all-around great series to pick up.

A very stunning and unique series that can demand being re-watched. The story may come off as bizarre and unreasonable but it's put together in a very ingenious way that I like. I think the biggest draw for the series though are the characters. The male lead does a good job narrating the episodes as the voice of reason and using his sarcastic tone - probably one of the better male lead characters I liked in all of anime. Between the SOS Brigade and their friends, there weren't any characters that I didn't find likable in some way. With 14 episodes, it's just the right length to keep you entertained with it's fun moments and mysterious plot. Don't let the naysayers turn you away, this is a good one to watch.

This is a tough series for me to watch because there's a lot of serious drama and angst in the main characters. I don't want to spoil much, but there's a few touching relationships between the characters as well as a few difficult ones and it becomes somewhat tragic. Also, they're not flimsy with the romance here; it does get intimate. For what it is, it's good and different if you like serious drama and romantic complications. For me though, I wasn't a big fan.

This is beautiful slice of life movie with lovable characters and a nice soundtrack. There isn't any sorcery or magic spells that will wow you here - the film is very down to earth and focuses on character development and good storytelling. There's actually a great english voice cast too and I prefer the english dub because of their wonderful performances. A nice family film.

I have a hard time saying that anything is "perfect" but to me, this film has it all. The story is truly an epic, set during the time of samurai, bringing to life incredible creatures beyond your imagination. Inflicted with a curse, the main character sets off on a journey to find a cure and the answers to his questions, trying to do the right thing for everyone. Friendship, romance, revenge, and a battle between humans and nature - it's a engrossing story told well and leaves a lasting impression. Along with it, the animation is superb and the soundtrack is wonderful. The action is some of the best and most graphic I've seen from Studio Ghibli.

Maybe it's too preachy or it's a little slow-paced here and there, but I believe this movie does everything right and is a splendid adventure that anyone can enjoy. My highest recommendation!

If you are a fan of Stand Alone Complex, you should definitely watch the movie that started it all - if you haven't already. If you're new to it then don't worry because this film has some high quality visuals, a mysterious plot, and amazing action scenes that should catch anyone's attention. It really does embody the cyberpunk genre and brings you into this futuristic atmosphere, but it doesn't take away from the strong character development. It's a very graphic anime but I highly recommend it.

Get a box of tissues, cause the hardships that these two children go through is fairly heartbreaking. It's a very emotional tragedy as the kids struggle to move on from their losses and find some happiness here and there. I have a hard time recommending this movie to casual anime viewers cause it's just a really saddening experience, but I will say that it's very well animated and the lifestyles seem to be depicted in a painfully accurate way. Hard to swallow some of the scenes in this film, but it truly is a great work of art if it can make you feel that way.

This is one serious japanese suspense thriller. The beauty of this movie lies in the fact that the main character starts to lose her mind as she is being stalked by a murderer, and the movie itself engages the viewers into this plot by confusing them with transitions between dream and reality. It's brilliantly executed and it makes for a very vivid and suspenseful mystery story. The director has a unique style of storytelling that is unlike what you may see in many other anime movies. Strange and unusual as it may seem, I do suggest watching this if you like horror or suspense movies.

I'm a big macross fan, loving the original and "macross plus", but since then I think the more recent macross series haven't been as great as those two. I guess the bar was raised for me. Anyways, as an old school fan, I was kinda bummed to see the airplanes and mechs in CG; I have a lot more respect for hand-drawn animated action, but despite that, the CG is really excellent here! The aerial combat is amazing and brings out a lot of nice action scenes. There's also a nice romance going for a couple of the characters. The storytelling and the plot start off great, but by the time the ending came around, I was left feeling confused. A few loose ends, unanswered questions here and there (especially seeing as this is a prequel to the original macross), but it still gets my recommendation! At only 5 episodes, it's a good series to pick up if you're new to macross.

One guy meets several girls and gets whole lot punishment for doing a lot of wrong things. Comedy viewers will probably enjoy this for all the slap-stick humour(I guess that's what you can call it). If you're looking for romance though, you'll probably be rolling you're eyes most of time; there are plenty of touching moments that just usually end up with our main man Keitaro suffering for his slip-ups. There's tends to be a bunch of meddling from the other girls as well when Keitaro is getting close to a potential love interest, so it can be annoying.

Honestly, I was disappointed with character designs - I thought they didn't look as good as the mangas (which I would recommend the viewers look into as well). The laughs come fairly quick with this one, but the romance will leave you waiting.

Ever wonder if it's hard to just jump into a giant robot and defeat aliens to save humanity, all at the age of 15? It is, and this series makes it painfully realistic I'd say and that's the thing that makes you love or hate this anime. Evangelion dives into the hardships of being a teenager and suddenly taking the responsibility of protecting the world from a unknown race of creatures. Despite all the controversy, the series is what it is and it goes into a lot of psychological thinking/logic and can be very mind-numbing. On top of that, there's a bunch of religious connections and references all combined into to create this unusual sci-fi series. If you don't care for any of that, then you can look forward to some great action scenes and a lot of serious drama throughout the episodes. It starts off kinda slow with the first few episodes, but I think it really becomes great during the middle of the series. However, the ending actually leaves a lot to be desired, but the animation studio actually released a movie called "The End of Evangelion" to be the true ending for the series so be sure to check that out.

You may not like the characters and everyone may not turn out to be the "good guys you want to root for", but I accepted how realistic they were and how they became that way. It's old and amazing, and I think it's a work of art - visually and mentally. Love it or hate it, it's a classic.

There's no complicated plot or engrossing story here - just a simple show about the lives of several high school girls. It's kind of like a show about nothing (Seinfeld-esque), following a group of friends as they chat about varying life subjects, how they go about doing their homework, partake in different hobbies, or deal with their unique families. Doesn't sound too exciting, but the characters themselves can grow on you and it becomes interesting to see their reactions and opinions as each one of them have differing personalities - from a serious hard-working girl to the somewhat lazy, eccentric and nerdy girl. Look for the various anime and video game references too!

Some episodes can test your patience when there isn't whole lot happening, but this series is great to put on at any time when you want to relax and laugh and not have to think too much. Very enjoyable.

If you've read or seen the manga, you might agree with me that the anime just LOOKS better in terms of character design - the animation is good too. As an anime in the harem genre, you get the one guy surrounded by several ladies, but in this instance, the male lead is actually a competent individual - he isn't clumsy or uneducated or stumbling all over the place heh. A few of the other girls are vying for his affection in some episodes focused on them, but the real pair here is Aoi and Kaoru and they have a lot of nice chemistry between them during their daily lives.

Not too serious and not too crazy, it's a nice romance anime.

I'd almost say that this is the perfect series if it weren't for a couple of unusual episodes. The series is mostly episodic, meaning the stories are usually contained to one episode. Great thing I like about that is you don't have to watch the first few episodes to catch up with the story; you can just pick one at random and enjoy it by itself. Even the encodes themselves are amazing quality. Highly recommended.

It's wild and crazy all bundled up with a great rock soundtrack. It's completely off-the-wall and even parodies a bunch of other anime and cartoons along the way. Hard to recommend to casual anime viewers, but if you take a chance - take it for what it is and have fun with it, you might end up liking it like I did.

This movie is a good example of Studio Ghibli's work: great animation, epic amazing adventure story, delightful characters and enjoyable action. Being one of the studio's earlier works, the production quality is still pretty darn good and the story is engaging but also fun and light-hearted at times. A fantastic film for those with a good imagination, highly recommended!

I really liked this series for it's likeable characters and out-of-control action. You kinda have to go with the crazy story when there's super powered individuals and eccentric characters all over the place, so if you're looking for something serious - you might want to pass on this one.

I thought this series really would've been great if it was only 26 episodes. With 50, it seems like the story was really spread out and I thought it dragged on in some episodes, especially with the many characters and their development. I love Prod. IG's character designs and animation, with their nice action scenes also. Take a look if you like mystery or drama, but action fans might need a lot of patience with this one.
