just like the topic says whats the difference between mkv and rmvb and in your opinion witch format is better?

rmvb and mkv are different containers. if u want more info go search it in wikipedia.
MKV is way better than rmvb in every aspect. i would choose MKV over rmvb any day.

There is no competition here...

MKV is far better than RMVB cuz it supports more and better codecs and virtually has no multimedia limitations.
For beginners it means more quality and less file size.

RMVB is long dead, AVC is the new era.

i love both mkv and rmvb....i had a crappy pc i had to watch FMA 2s some episode tat was only uploaded in mtHD
i donwnloaded re encode RMVB file...it was really good...But mkvs better....

nowdays mkv may be the best but as i grew up i grew with rmvb.

So it will always be in my heart as the container that brought me in touch with videos and animes. .

But still mkv is way better than rmvb

if you want to talk about other containers i'm the man for that

AVI - the first container can use lots of codes the best use for it will be "DIVX XVID and the other light codes" know as the first video format to download films and anime from the internet.

RMVB - even that it not to popylar from member how like super Q . RMVB was great things for slow internet anime fans, it is so small ad easy to use for long time most anime site use it for thy anime "RMVB have lots of downside it is good for small file but a big fill for big one" as container it can use only realmedia codes

MPEG, MPG - the VCD DVD code so good but so have not nice for internet use at all but have great Q.

MP4 - light and strong the new internet face it can use the new super code H264 and X264 that make the image so clear and light

MKV - it is pure container, MKV is like a ZIP or RAR file you can add lots of thing in it "VIDEO, sunde more thin one, sub file, chapterfile, flash file, and other things" you can add any of the obve file in it normaly with a mixer and you ill get an MKV
the MKV with RMVB video files and MP3 file in it. the onlt down side to MKV that is not all player can understand it
even DVD player with MKV player in it can play it all the time but it is the srtongest video file for anime .

MOV

MOV ar the strongest video file huge size pure imge and HIGH Q more thin any thing
all other code even H264 have the same idea make the images in secnde less thin 24pic for sic
mpeg make mrphed image in midel of 2 images , DIVX do lots of math for image to knoe the defrent betwen it and the one befor
so you can say if the film need 24image in sec MPG gave you 12 images and divx gave you 4imges
OK know you get it
MOV gave you 24image in second yes no math no morph
24 image in secone for 24 image in seconde
that make MOV totley not good for internet use
BUT
it is the only video good to use for video editors
if you ever work in movie as video editor you will never use other video container

there are others containers but how care

How come when I search the net for american tv series most of them are in rmvb format? Does mkv only works good on anime?

also mkv, is better then most other container files because it has the ability to hold multiple Subs/audio, video chaptering etc (other then .MOV (which is an apple container and isnt very good))

and im pretty sure there gonna add a feature where you can have a dvd like menu there aswell


also i grew up watching rmvb, when i look back at some of my old rmvb files and compare with mkv, im so suprised by the quality increase

back in the day, rmvb was awesome :P

We forgot to say that MKV is completely free.
Yeah, RMVB back in the old days were awesome but with the improvement in technology studies, MKV (x264 actually) certainly surpasses RMVB

ohh, . . . . so many answered that mkv is better than rmvb ~ so why do we have a rmvb section still if it's dead?!~

^ cause some people with low system performance can't play h264.
