The Agency of Cultural Affairs of Japan invested 214 million yen ($2.26 million) in "2010 Young Animator Training Project" and entrusted the execution of the project to Japan Animation Creators Association (JaniCA). 16 production companies submitted proposal bids for the funds, and Ascension, Telecom Animation Film, P.A. Works, and Production I.G were selected. Each of them received 38 million yen for production costs and for training the young animators.

Note: All four shorts were originally screened together in eight film theatres as part of a roadshow held between March 5 and 11, 2011. All four shorts were then shown weekly between March 6 and 27, 2011 as part of MBS' TV schedule.
